Periods 1 & 2, Post 3: Black Leaders throughout American History

Hey all. Because February is Black History Month, I want this week's blog post to concentrate on those African-American leaders who helped shape this country into what it is today.

In your comment, choose an African-American man or woman who was influential in shaping the culture of this country in one of the following ways, from the time of the American revolution until the present day: politics, science, art/music, literature, or sports. In five sentences, give this person's biographical information, including birth date, the place where he/she lived, date of death (if applicable), and any other interesting information about his/her background. Then, use at least five sentences to explain this individual's contribution to American society; explain what he/she did, and why it's significant to American history.

Your comment will count as a homework assignment for the first marking period of the spring semester.

Have an enjoyable--and safe--winter break

  2. Martin Luther King Jr is someone who helped he made a HUGE impact on our world. Because segregation was one of the most ridiculous conflict to be brought in this world. I don't think it was right that people were treated so horrible for a color or should I say. Just a little pigment change in the skin hey! that's what makes us DIFFERENT.By the way it helped us now and made a nice impact on us today. Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968 he got shot. Bullet wound to his head. Born In Atlanta Georgia.

  3. Rosa Parks was a big African American influence to the world. Rosa was born on February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama and sadly died on October 24, 2005. Rosa Parks changed the American society by refusing to give up her seat in the front of a bus. For that reason Rosa sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott with Martin Luther King Jr. This is significant to American history because now not only can color people sit were they want to on the bus but so can the whites.

  5. The woman who changed life in it's self and that was Rosa Parks. She was born on feburary 4, 1913 and died on october 24, 2005. I loved hearing about how she sat in the front of the bus during the time of segratation. She died at the age of 92 and inspired the next generation to fight for their own civil rights. In her lifetime, she recieved over hundreds of awards and honors like Medal of Freedom Award in 1996.

  6. Well in my opinion Rosa Parks made a big change in history. She was the first african american that stood seatting on the bus, which white people were the ones to seat. She was born on februrary 1913 and died on october 2005. The first time I read about her I was impressed. She did something that nobody wpuld have dare to do. I think she was a great leader in my opinion. The reason is because I could connect it to my life and to my race.
