Period 1 & 2, Post 1: Marjane the "Celestial Light"

Hey, guys!! Welcome to our inaugural posting!! I hope that this is an enjoyable experience for us all. :-)

I'd like for us to continue our discussion about religion and spirituality. In Persepolis, we see Marjane's strong faith in her God at the beginning. Then, with the advent of the Islamic revolution, her belief is shaken. How can this apply to us?

In order to receive credit, your assignment must include:
  1. Is your family religious? Were you raised to believe in a specific religion? If so, which?
  2. Are you religious now? Why/why not?
  3. By examining your answers to the previous questions, and evaluating them in conjunction with Marjane's character, how do external conflicts influence internal ones (i.e., how can things that happen around you cause you to doubt yourself and your beliefs)?

  2. my family is not religious but they do go to church once in a while, and i was not raised to believe in a specific religious. i am not religious because i was not raised to be religious.
i think that the things that happen around you can cause you to doubt yorself and your beliefs because u may believe in something and something can happen that makes u question if what u believe is true.

    2. yes, because i pray and thats all i need to do.i dont have to go to church just to call myself religious.
    3. External conflict can influence internal conflict because you can second think your choices and have a different opinion about it.

  4. Hey Ms.Cramer its Alejandra ..
1- My family is not like soooo religious but they are religious. I was raised in the Catholic religion I was baptized when I was 15 days old, so I basically grew up into it.
2- I am religious now I strongly do believe in god and my parents have influenced me to follow my religion go to church having my sacraments on time so I am a religious person.
3- In the book Persepolis with Marjane the example was on the important people which they really influenced the rest of the people into the religion which yet she didn’t want to be part of but it’s not just only influencing them it was because many people were scared to say what they actually did feel, they were scared of getting eliminated by their leader. I am sure that she wasn’t the only young girl who didn’t want to be part of it but many of the children’s parents did influence their kids into this religion such as my parents influenced me with Catholicism.

  6. 1-My fathers side of the family is really religious & you can automatically tell when you step into my grandparents home. But I wasn't
raised by them to be a Christian because I just met them for the very first time a few months ago.

2-No I'm not religious because I wasn't really taught to be like one.

    3-Uhh don't know how to answer # 3.

  7. This is Joely. I didn't have any choice then to put anonymous because it won't go through -__-

    1. I think my family is religious only when they want to be religious, but other wise we are catholic -- well them.

    2. I'm not religious at all, not because I wasn't raised to believe in god but because there are many different kinds of religions and I think I should be able to make a choice for myself.

    3. _______ I have no idea what you're asking.
