Over the past couple of weeks, we've discussed how the molestation of Claudia's sister, Frieda, at the hands of Mr. Henry foreshadows Pecola's rape by her father in
The Bluest Eye.
For this post, I want to focus on Ms. Dunion's concern that Frieda might be "ruined," as a result of being molested. What does "being ruined" mean? What does this reaction foreshadow for Pecola in the future of the story? And lastly, should this be the primary concern after a young girl is molested? How is there a double standard today, when it comes to sex and people's power over their own bodies?

this is maria and being ruined means that you are being taken ur childish and is being cosider a bad girl who has given up her body anybody and doesnt have self respect.pecola has being ruined by her father when he raped her being a little girl so she is different than the other girls in the town.it should be primary concern after a young girl is molested because she would need to make her life be different than the peers and neighbors dont treat her different than the ones not being molested.there is a double standard today, when it comes to sex the people should be ready to stand for people rumors and being on your business and you got to know when is the right time to expode your body any man in the world.

ReplyDeletethe meaning of ruined generally applied to women and used as an insult or offensive term of disparagement, meaning "dirty or slovenly." Her being molested foreshadows that Pecola will become a unwanted more than what she already is or she will as if she is worth being with anyone.
Being ruined means to be touched in a sexual way before marriaged. With the double standards if a girl sleeps with many guys she referred as a whore. But if a guy sleeps with many girls he's considered a player
