Hi, everyone!! I know that this has been an "off" week for various reasons, but let's not let that derail us academically!!
In the first chapter of Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, we see demonstrators protesting both for and against a law mandating that all women in Iran wear veils; those who support the law cheer, "The veil!" while those against it cheer, "Freedom!" Why do you think this is? Why might some Muslim women support wearing veils, while others do not? And finally, what is the "separation of church and state"?
Your comments will count as a homework assignment for the third marking period of the semester.

I think womens that cheer the veil want every other women to be looked at and treated the same. Some Muslim women might not support wearing the veil because they may not want to be like the others and all the look the same. The separation of the church and the state is that women and men can sit next to each other in church or be together in school.

Some Muslim women might want to support veil wearing because they don't want to go against their religion. They probably want no one to see their faces until marriage. Some Muslim women might want to go against this idea because they probably want to be independent, more free. They probably want to be more civilized and try new things

Some people that continue to wear veils are more religious than others and some mean while also are tired of wearing the veils. Just for the special purpose that those are maybe the same ones that are protesting. Of what is going on and what they are going through. Point blank veil or no veil FREEDOM is everything.
ReplyDeleteThe whole purpose of some muslim women that continue to wear the viel is most likely more religous than other women that perfer not to keep wearing the viel. Also, they probably want all women to wear the viel because some women are probably more insecure than others and they feel everybody should wear it that way they get treated equally.
ReplyDeleteI think the women that supporting the veil becasue they more religions types and the women dont want veil more modern day people since they want wear what they want. The differences betweens state and church is because got alot of other culture one location if make law for church thing people of other culture not with that culture religion will not like it.
ReplyDeleteWhen the women was cheering for the veil, they were just listening to their husbands. The muslim women who was protesting against the veil was just expessing themselves for wahat they believed in.
ReplyDeleteThe women that cheers for the veil is possibly just listening to their husbands. The muslim women were protesting against the veil is just expressing their feelings and they show it by particiating in the demonate the feelings.

I think they yell freedom because the veil is a form of restriction and you don't have much rights if put up with wearing it. It also symbolizes that women are weak and not strong enough to do things. Akeeba Johnson
ReplyDeleteMuslim womans purpose for wearing a viel is because there religon, but little do we know of all them like wearing it. Muslim womans are just like any other and they should all be treated the same .
