Periods 1 & 2, Post 10: The Meaning of the Title

This week, we have reached the conclusion of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. We have focused not only on the novel's resolution, but also on the significance of the book's title.

Therefore, as this week's topic, I want you to discuss the title's meaning. Be sure to link Atticus' statement that "it's a sin to kill a mockingbird" with what we learned during the last few chapters of the book. Who are the "mockingbirds" to whom Harper Lee is referring? What are the "sins" committed against them?

Your responses will count as a homework assignment grade for the third marking period of the spring semester.

The tile goes with the book because as Atticus stated than an mockingbird is innocent and they shouldn't be killed. It's a sin and basically Tom was like the mockingbird in this situation. Killing an inncoent person is a sin to killing anyone period is. Accusing the wrong person is wrong to so thats what I feel the title of this book has on the impact of the story.

  4. The title goes with the story becauase Mocking birds are innocent and no one should harm them. Or it can also mean when killing something innocent. This theme symbolized the book because Tom got accused for a wrong deed and at the end he was punsihed in a way that is evil, which is death. They killed him. Atticus stated "it's a sin to kill a mocking bird" it means that mocking birds are always innocent so killing them means you know that there are good but you are doing it wrongfully. Like for example the deat of tom.
